Mac Apps That Power My Day

I got introduced to macOS back in 2018 at the workplace and since then I’ve been in love with the operating system and the entire ecosystem. There is something about the Mac apps that makes them so delightful to use. Most of these apps are well designed, intuitive, and are a pleasure to use.

I’m now using a Mac as my primary machine and I’ve been using a bunch of apps that have become an integral part of my daily workflow. Here are some of the Mac apps that I use on a daily basis and that power my day.

  • VS Code — My primary code editor.
  • Windsurf — My editor of choice for “vibe coding”.
  • Raycast — Application launcher and more. This app itself has replaced a bunch of apps for me.
  • Herd — One click PHP development environment. The best way to run PHP on your Mac without any fuss.
  • Command X — Brings Cut and Paste to macOS. Super handy if you’re coming from Windows like me.
  • NetNewsWire — My RSS reader of choice. It’s simply one of the best RSS readers out there.
  • DBEngine — A simple, powerful, and lightweight MySQL, MariaDB, Redis, and PostgreSQL database server manager.
  • Kap — Screen recorder of choice when I’m in hurry.
  • OBS — Screen recorder of choice when I need more control. Especially for recording longer videos.
  • ImageOptim — Image compression tool.
  • RunJS — JavaScript Playground. It comes in handy when I want to quickly test some JavaScript code.
  • Confectionery — Browser when I want to take clean screenshots.
  • LocalSend — I use it to send files across multiple devices. Including my Pixel and Linux machine. It’s godsend for me.
  • HiddenBar — I use this to keep my menubar clean.
  • Caffeine — Keeps my Mac awake when I’m doing something important.
  • Xnip — Screenshot tool of choice.
  • Bluesnooze — Disables Bluetooth when Mac goes to sleep.
  • ChatGPT — Desktop app for OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
  • Viz — I use this to capture text from images.
  • Warp — My terminal of choice.
  • Itsycal — Menubar calendar that I can’t live without. It’s too cute to ignore.
  • Klack — Mechanical keyboard sounds for my Mac.
  • HTTPie — API runner of choice.
  • Sticky Notepad — A simple sticky note app that recently discovered. It’s minimal and does the job.
  • Monocle — Helps me keep the focus on the task at hand.
  • Espanso — Text expander of choice.
